We’re talking about Lehigh Valley Space Fest taking place May 6 – 7, 2023 at Paxinosa Elementary School in Easton, PA.
The Lehigh Valley is home to fests, so why not one about space? We talk with Marty McGuire, one of the coordinators, about his interest in backyard astronomy and his role as a NASA Ambassador.
We also discuss a few trippy space facts and Marty lets us know the best spot in Pennsylvania to see the night sky without light pollution.

We’re talking to the pride of Nazareth, World Champion, and Olympic Medalist, Joe Kovacs.
Joe is already a Lehigh Valley athletic legend. His resume includes two World Championships and two Olympic Silver Medals in the shot put.
We talk about the first time he picked up a shot put in the Bethlehem Catholic High School parking lot, his favorite place to visit when he comes home (one of them is Ressler’s Market on Main St. in Nazareth), if he’ll ever throw at Celtic Classic, his favorite place to throw in general (it’s not a stadium), how many more Olympic Games we can hope to cheer for him at (maybe more than one!), and how ArtsQuest is on notice that we want to put together a Street Throw event at SteelStacks!
Oh, and Lost Tavern Brewing made a beer in his honor: “Muddy Joe”.

Anna Lazewski recently earned Girl Scout Gold Award for her project: Sustainability on the Monocacy.
Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania sent out a press release congratulating Anna for earning the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award a Girl Scout can earn. For her project, Anna designed educational, interactive trail content at Burnside Plantation focused around colonial history and sustainability. The virtual content includes a self guided tour and audio tour, art and poetry prompts, letterboxing clues, and more with the goal of educating the public about how the history of the Moravians intertwines with living sustainably today.
Anna, a Liberty High School senior, also led trail work including graffiti remediation, bridge repainting, and trash cleanups in order to revitalize the existing walking trail her virtual content is attached to.
Anna’s walking trail and self guided tour are located on Burnside Plantation’s portion of the Monocacy Way Trail and can be accessed by visitors at any time.

Girls on the Run Lehigh Valley (GOTRLV) is proud to announce that it is an independent Girls on the Run council as of July 1, 2022. Initially started in the Lehigh Valley as an affiliate council through Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries in 2007, GOTRLV’s growth and expansion have led it to become an independent council directly through Girls on the Run International, with its own 501(c)3 non-profit status. Since beginning the program in the Lehigh Valley, GOTRLV has grown from 45 participants in its first year to over 800 participants in 2021-22 school year.
“We are proud to establish ourselves as an independent council,” said Liz Fones, Executive Director for GOTRLV. “We are grateful to Diakon for being our founding sponsor and our home for the last 15 years, and we are excited to see our growth continue as we work to reach as many girls as possible in our community.”
The mission of Girls on the Run is to ́inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running”. The program combines training for a non-competitive 5K event with life-changing lessons to enhance self-esteem, social, emotional and physical health. GOTRLV programs are for all girls, with a focus on diversity, equity and inclusion as a priority in the organization’s strategic goals.
As a result of increased growth, the GOTRLV Board of Directors is also expanding its membership and seeking diverse applicants committed to the mission of inspiring girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident.
