Little Pond Arts Retreat to Host Erika Batdorf’s Poetic License in Nazareth

Posted On April 2, 2026 By lvwithlove In Community News /

Little Pond Arts Retreat in Nazareth will open its space to the public for three performances of Erika Batdorf’s Poetic License on Thursday, April 30, Friday, May 1, and Saturday, May 2, with each show beginning at 7 p.m. at the retreat center, 92 South Penn Dixie Rd.

The 75-minute solo work has been described as funny, uplifting, and complex. The play follows Marti, a creative writing professor on the edge of walking away from her life, while her partially paralyzed sister pushes both Marti and the audience to think about desire, education, mortality, and what really matters. The piece blends theater and an interactive talk-show format, while drawing on poetry from writers including Yeats, Blake, Kerouac, Plath, Eliot, Wilde, Ginsberg, and others.

Batdorf’s work also earned multiple Dora Award nominations in Toronto, including Outstanding New Play or Musical, Outstanding Performance by a Female, and Outstanding Direction.

Admission is free, with a suggested donation of $25. Seating is limited to 40 people per performance, so reservations are encouraged by emailing litlpond9@gmail.com. Get more info on the venue here: https://littlepond.org/

As part of Batdorf’s residency, Little Pond Arts Retreat will also host a free two-day program for youth ages 15 to 27 focused on “Enhancing the Devotional Space through Theatre.” Participants will explore performance techniques, devising strategies, and help create a devotional meeting for Sunday, May 3 at 1 p.m. Additional information is available through Bill George at the same email address.
