ArtsQuest Explores Storytelling in Fall Cinema Series

Posted On September 29, 2025 By lvwithlove In Community News /

ArtsQuest’s Frank Banko Alehouse Cinemas will launch its fall Cinema Film Studies series on October 18, offering audiences an in-depth look at how storytelling evolves across genres, history and media. Hosted at the ArtsQuest Campus at SteelStacks in Bethlehem, the series brings together professors, filmmakers and editors for interactive lectures and workshops.

The lineup begins October 18 with How the 1970s Changed Cinema, led by Professor Timothy Molchany of Northampton Community College. The session will examine how directors like Scorsese, Coppola, Spielberg and Lucas responded to political and social upheaval in the 1970s, reshaping film aesthetics and production standards.

On November 8, Dr. Michael Kramp presents Jane Austen in Film: A View at 250. This program celebrates Austen’s 250th birthday with an exploration of how her works have been adapted for screen over time, analyzing portrayals of class, gender and cultural influence. The event is part of the larger initiative Jane Austen at 250: A Celebration on Screen.

Emmy-nominated editor Tyler H. Walk closes the series on November 15 with a hands-on workshop at the Bethlehem Visitor Center. Drawing on projects such as Welcome to Chechnya and How to Survive a Plague, Walk will demonstrate the art of documentary editing, showing how editors shape narratives and influence meaning through choices of inclusion and omission.

Tickets and registration for all sessions are available at artsquest.org. Students, educators, artists and anyone interested in the craft of storytelling are encouraged to attend.
