Muhlenberg College is bringing musical theater back to its summer stage for the first time since 2019 with a three-week run of “Seussical”, the Dr. Seuss-inspired musical by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty.
Presented by Muhlenberg’s Theatre and Dance Department, the production runs June 12-27, 2026, in the Dorothy Hess Baker Theatre at Muhlenberg College, 2400 Chew Street, Allentown. The show marks the revival of Muhlenberg’s summer musical tradition after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the college’s long-running Summer Music Theatre series into hiatus.
Directed by theatre professor James Peck, “Seussical” features beloved characters including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, Mayzie and Jojo. The musical takes audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus and the tiny world of the Whos, blending colorful design with themes of kindness, courage and community.

Peck, who has directed several Muhlenberg summer productions since 2008, said the return of summer musical theatre offers important opportunities for students while enriching the Lehigh Valley arts scene.
Choreographer Noel Price-Bracey, a member of Muhlenberg’s dance faculty, noted that while “Seussical” is ideal for families, its message resonates with audiences of all ages. The story highlights the importance of standing up for those whose voices are often unheard.
The production will also coincide with Seussicamp, a two-week performing arts camp for students in grades 6-8, featuring instruction in acting, voice and dance.
Performances are scheduled Thursdays and Fridays at 7 p.m., Saturdays at 2 and 7 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m. Weekday matinees will take place June 18 and 25 at 10 a.m. Tickets range from $15 to $32, depending on date, age and performance type. Tickets are available by calling 484-664-3333 or visiting muhlenberg.edu/summerarts.
