Route 22 Throwback Video Game Releasing November 15

Posted On November 6, 2025 By lvwithlove In Blog, Community News /

Lightly-Salted Productions will launch Route 22 Rampage for the Atari 2600 on November 15, 2025. Built with a mix of 6502 assembly and Batari Basic in a tight 16 KB footprint, the retro-modern racer challenges players to survive the chaos of Pennsylvania’s Route 22 while chasing the fastest time.

Races unfold across shifting city and industrial backdrops as players weave through traffic, dodge potholes, and circle Tower 22 five times to complete a run. Optional modes include Pothole Mode, Damage On/Off, and No Parked Cars. You can even honk to pressure drivers to move.

The game will be playable online at www.lightly-salted.com/route22rampage with a limited cartridge release that includes a case and full-color artwork, available through the studio’s shop and select local retailers.

Creator Matthew Blum says the project grew from a desire to learn low-level computing and to work within the classic console’s constraints: “Every single byte counts.”
