Allentown School District Foundation Launches Emergency Food and Fund Drive

Posted On November 7, 2025 By lvwithlove In Blog, Community News /

The Allentown School District Foundation has joined forces with the District to launch an Emergency Fund and Non-Perishable Food-Raiser to assist students and families affected by the ongoing government shutdown and disruptions to federal nutrition assistance programs.

Food donations can be dropped off at any Allentown school or the Administration Center through Friday, November 14, while monetary gifts can be made online through the Foundation’s secure donation portal: 👉 Donate here

Led by Superintendent Dr. Carol D. Birks and Executive Director Patti Bruno, the effort runs from November 3 through November 14, 2025, with a goal of raising $5,000 and collecting 20,000 nonperishable food items. So far, the campaign has reached 69% of its fundraising goal.

More than 91% of Allentown students are economically disadvantaged, and nearly 98% qualify for free or reduced-price meals. With school often being the most reliable source of nutrition for many children, this initiative aims to provide crucial support during a period of instability.

Community partners include Second Harvest Food Bank, which is managing logistics and storage, and the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley, overseeing community outreach. The Allentown School District Foundation (ASDF) is serving as the financial host.

Monetary donations will help purchase essential items such as baby formula, diapers, hygiene products, and specialized dietary items, ensuring families’ most urgent needs are met quickly and confidentially.

Every contribution helps ensure that no child in Allentown faces hunger alone.
