Violin That Survived Hiroshima to Be Featured in Bethlehem Talk and Performance

Posted On April 9, 2026 By lvwithlove In Community News /

A violin that survived the Hiroshima atomic bombing will be heard in Bethlehem this month as Bethlehem Area Public Library presents “Surviving Hiroshima: Author and Hibaku Violin Music and Talk” on Monday, April 20, 2026.

The free event will feature author Anthony Drago, who will discuss his book, Surviving Hiroshima: A Young Woman’s Story, along with his family’s journey through the Russian Revolution, World War II, and the bombing of Hiroshima. The program will also include a live performance on the historic hibaku violin by Kanon Yasuzuka, a virtuoso from Hiroshima, Japan.

The event will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Cohen Room at the library’s Main branch, located at 11 W. Church St. in Bethlehem. Registration is required, and space is limited. Registration closes at 5:30 p.m. on the day of the event.

Listed as both an author event and a performance, the program is open to a wide audience, including families, teens, and adults. The library also encourages anyone needing accessibility accommodations to get in touch in advance.
