Valley Preferred Cycling Center Marks 50 Years with Free Celebration

Posted On September 27, 2025 By lvwithlove In Community News /

The Valley Preferred Cycling Center in Breinigsville will celebrate its 50th anniversary on Sunday, October 12, 2025, with a community event from 1–4 p.m. Admission is free, and the formal ceremony begins at 1:45 p.m.

Founded in 1975 by Robert Rodale, the velodrome known as T-Town has become one of the nation’s premier cycling venues. Originally called the Lehigh County Velodrome, it began with Rodale’s vision to bring world-class track cycling to the Lehigh Valley. The first race was held on October 12, 1975, and since then the center has hosted Olympic trials, world championships, and the long-running World Series of Bicycling. Over five decades it has produced more than 140 national champions, seven world champions, and three Olympic medalists.

The facility has undergone several major upgrades, including a $2.5 million renovation in 1995 for the Olympic trials and resurfacing projects in later years. In 2007 it became the Valley Preferred Cycling Center after a naming partnership, and today it anchors the 103-acre Bob Rodale Cycling and Fitness Park while offering development programs that introduce thousands of young riders to the sport.

The anniversary program will feature a reenactment of Rodale’s inaugural ride by his grandson Andrew Rodale Norelli, a celebratory ride with cycling greats Joe Saling, Bobby Phillips, Andy Taus, Kim Geist, and Chip Berezny, and appearances by Ellen Dorsey and Art McHugh. Local leaders including Phillips Armstrong and Representative Michael Schlossberg are also scheduled to speak. Families can enjoy inflatables, a kids obstacle course, Sticky Pig BBQ, an ice cream truck, and the unveiling of a 50-year photo archive.

The free celebration takes place October 12 from 1–4 p.m. at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center, 1151 Mosser Rd, Breinigsville, PA.
