Upper Macungie Township has reached a major milestone in the construction of its new Community Lifestyle Center at Grange Park, celebrating the timber topping-off of the 188,000-square-foot facility on November 20, 2025. Township officials, community leaders, business representatives, and construction partners gathered on site to sign and lift a structural timber beam into place, marking the project’s steady progress toward completion next summer.
The center has already drawn national attention for its innovative long-span heavy timber design, which was recently highlighted in Engineering News-Record. StructureCraft designed and built the timber framework, which connects four buildings into a single multi-use complex. When finished, the facility will house an indoor turf field, multi-use sports courts, fitness spaces, classrooms, and flexible community meeting rooms.
At the heart of the project is Building A, a 133,000-square-foot covered soccer field with a walking track. Its 280-foot timber clear span is among the longest in North America, creating a column-free space for year-round play and events. The beam hoisted during the topping-off ceremony will form part of Building C, a single-court gymnasium that will support basketball, volleyball, pickleball, and other court sports.
Township leaders describe the center as a long-term investment in community life and local pride, envisioning the complex as a regional destination for recreation, wellness, and events. In addition to daily programming such as sports leagues, walking and running, fitness classes, and educational programs, the turf field and meeting spaces will be able to host concerts, fairs, indoor movies, conferences, and senior activities.
Sustainability is a core feature of the project. The indoor turf field is being constructed from approximately 80 percent recycled materials, and the gymnasium floor will be fully recyclable at the end of its life cycle. The project team includes Upper Macungie Township as owner, HKA5 Architecture as architect, StructureCraft as structural engineer of record and heavy timber contractor, and Alvin H. Butz, Inc. as construction manager.
Fundraising for the Community Lifestyle Center is being led by the Upper Macungie Township Community Fund, with support from founding partners Air Products, Lehigh Valley Health Network, Jaindl Family of Companies, and Alvin H. Butz, Inc., alongside many local donors. As the building moves into enclosure and interior fit-out, the topping-off milestone signals that the long-planned vision for a modern, year-round community hub is getting close to reality for residents across Upper Macungie and neighboring communities.
