Posted On March 3, 2026 By lvwithlove In Community News /

The End: A Bookstore will host an evening with Pulitzer Prize-winning author Heather Ann Thompson on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at Muhlenberg College’s Trexler Library. Thompson will be in conversation with Jess Denke to discuss her new book, Fear and Fury: The Reagan Eighties, the Bernie Goetz Shootings, and the Rebirth of White Rage.

The event is free, but registration is required through The End Bookstore’s website. Books will be available for purchase on-site, and only books purchased through The End Bookstore are eligible to be signed.

In Fear and Fury, Thompson revisits the 1984 New York City subway shooting involving Bernhard Goetz and examines how the case helped fuel a wider national debate over race, crime, and vigilantism. The book draws on extensive archival material, interviews, legal files, and contemporary reporting to reframe a pivotal moment in modern American history.

Thompson is best known for Blood in the Water: The Attica Prison Uprising of 1971 and Its Legacy, which earned the Pulitzer Prize, and she writes frequently on criminal justice issues for major national outlets.
