The Last Days of Easton’s Newspaper: Sigal Museum Hosts Publisher Al Kratzer

Posted On October 2, 2025 By lvwithlove In Community News /

The Sigal Museum in Easton will host publisher and cartoonist Al Kratzer on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 1 p.m. for a program titled “Hey! Where’s My Paper? An Eyewitness Account of the Last Days of the Newspaper in Easton, PA.”

Kratzer, an Easton native and longtime media professional, will share a behind-the-scenes account of The Express-Times and its transition from a historic print newspaper to a digital-only platform. His talk will explore the economic challenges, shifting advertising models, and shrinking newsroom staff that have reshaped local journalism.

The program is presented in conjunction with the Sigal Museum’s special exhibition, Read This! The History of Media in Northampton County, which traces the evolution of communication from newspapers to radio, television, and digital platforms. Executive Director Megan van Ravenswaay emphasized the program’s importance, noting that Kratzer’s stories highlight how newspapers once served as the community’s heartbeat and prompt reflection on the future of local news.

Admission is $10 for adults (including museum access) and free for NCHGS members. No registration is required.

The Read This! exhibition will remain on view through July 4, 2026, as part of the Lehigh Valley 250 commemoration, supported by Brown-Daub Family of Dealerships, Northampton County, Crayola, Garofalo Real Estate, and community partners.
