Minneapolis Youth Chorus Visits Allentown for Benefit Concert with Mosaic Youth Chorus

Posted On January 27, 2026 By lvwithlove In Community News /

A youth chorus from Minneapolis will be in the Lehigh Valley this February as VocalEssence Singers Of This Age (VESOTA) joins Mosaic Youth Chorus (MYC) for a joint benefit concert on Saturday, February 14 at 3 p.m. The performance will be held at Resurrected Life Community Church, 620 Hamilton Street, Allentown.

The concert will feature both choirs singing separately and together in a range of styles, from gospel to contemporary music. A free-will offering will support the James Lawson Freedom School, a program of Resurrected Life Community Development Corp serving students in grades K–12 in the Allentown School District. The program is designed to help address summer learning loss and provide meaningful educational opportunities for children and youth.

MYC Executive and Artistic Director Joy Hirokawa said the collaboration reflects a shared purpose between the two ensembles: empowering diverse young singers to build community, strengthen empathy, and promote positive social change through choral music.

Mosaic Youth Chorus has earned awards and national recognition for its performances and for its education and community engagement work. The organization is supported by grants from The Presser Foundation and the Creative Sector Flex Fund, a program of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts administered by the Lehigh Valley Community Foundation.

VESOTA is made up of Twin Cities teenagers and, under the leadership of G. Phillip Shoultz III, presents music ranging from classical to hip-hop while encouraging broad participation and developing young leaders through collaboration and creativity.
