Barnyard Buddies Brings Animal-Assisted Emotional Learning to Tumble Tail Farms in Coopersburg

Posted On March 24, 2026 By lvwithlove In Blog, Community News /

Tumble Tail Farms in Coopersburg is launching a new program called Barnyard Buddies, a six-week session designed to help children ages 4 to 12 build social and emotional skills in a farm setting. Led by owner Gail Hunsberger, a trained therapist specializing in the social aspects of human-animal interaction, the program focuses on managing emotions, easing anxiety, improving communication, and increasing sensory awareness.

Children in Barnyard Buddies will meet once a week for three hours and work with horses, pigs, goats, and dogs. The program is designed for children who experience big emotional outbursts, excessive worry or anxiety, or challenges with social skills and avoidance. Sessions will keep a ratio of no more than three students per therapist, giving each child personalized support and plenty of hands-on interaction.

Hunsberger said the program stands out because each animal offers a different lesson. “Our horses offer lessons in calmness as well as both one’s internal and external energy. Our goats aid in helping control one’s personal space. Our pigs teach about ‘not judging a book by its cover.’”

She said those experiences help children get out of their heads and back into their bodies, while the animals provide a calm, judgment-free space that can help lower stress and build confidence.

She also said one of the most surprising things about barnyard animals is how much they can teach. “They offer a truly judgment free safe haven to let go of what holds us back from being who truly can be in this world.”

By caring for the animals, children can practice gentle touch, patience, empathy, and self-regulation in a way that feels natural and engaging.
