Valley Youth House Honored by Philadelphia City Council for 20 Years of Service

Posted On October 10, 2025 By lvwithlove In Community News /

Valley Youth House has been formally recognized by the Philadelphia City Council for two decades of dedicated service to young people across the city. The resolution, adopted into law on September 25 and read during the October 9 Council meeting, celebrates the organization’s 20-year commitment to youth empowerment, housing stability, and community support.

Councilmember Rue Landau, who introduced and led the resolution, praised Valley Youth House for its long-standing impact. “For 20 years, Valley Youth House has been a lifeline for young people across Philadelphia and beyond. Their work has transformed lives and created real, lasting change,” Landau said. She highlighted programs such as the Youth Designated Access Point and the Pride Program as models for equity-driven, youth-centered care.

Accepting the recognition, Shani A. Meacham, J.D., Senior Vice President of Programs at Valley Youth House, reflected on the organization’s growth from serving fewer than 50 youth to nearly 3,500 annually. “Our success isn’t rooted in a motivation for accolades but in the dedication to achieve our vision where every youth belongs to a nurturing community,” Meacham said.

Several Valley Youth House leaders, staff, and youth alumni attended the ceremony, joining Councilmember Landau and other city officials in marking the milestone.

Founded in Pennsylvania, Valley Youth House provides housing, counseling, life skills training, and support services to vulnerable and homeless youth throughout the region. The organization continues to expand its mission of helping young people build stable, fulfilling futures.
