Bach at Noon Welcomes the Westminster Choir for a Special Performance in Bethlehem

Posted On October 9, 2025 By lvwithlove In Community News /

The Bach Choir of Bethlehem continues its beloved Bach at Noon concert series with a special performance featuring the world-renowned Westminster Choir of Westminster Choir College. The free event takes place Tuesday, October 14, at Central Moravian Church, 73 W. Church Street, Bethlehem. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., with the concert beginning at 12:10 p.m.

This month’s program highlights Bach’s Cantata 196: “Der Herr denket an uns” (“The Lord is mindful of us all”), originally written to celebrate a wedding. The Westminster Choir will also perform selections featuring Central Moravian Church’s historic organ, including works by acclaimed British composer Herbert Howells. Additional compositions by Judith Weir, Nicholas Cline, and Howard Helvey will round out the performance.

Artistic Director and Conductor Christopher Jackson will provide commentary throughout the concert, offering insight into the music and its historical context. The event is supported by an endowment gift from Mrs. Cornelius Ayer Wood Jr., honoring The Rev. Cornelius Ayer Wood Jr., a longtime member of the Bach Choir’s Board of Managers.

Following the concert, guests are invited to a free guided tour of the historic Central Moravian Church sanctuary, built between 1803 and 1806 and now recognized as part of Bethlehem’s UNESCO World Heritage Site designation.

Bach at Noon concerts are free and open to the public, with donations encouraged to support the series. The performance will also be broadcast live on WWFM and livestreamed on the Bach Choir’s YouTube channel.
