Historic Moravian Singstunde Returns to Nazareth on November 30

Posted On November 18, 2025 By lvwithlove In Community News /

The Moravian Historical Society will host a traditional Moravian Singstunde on Sunday, November 30 at 2 p.m., offering visitors a chance to experience a centuries-old musical practice in an intimate museum setting. This participatory singing hour will feature hymns for Advent and Christmas in both English and German and will be led by Kyle Johnston of the Moravian Music Foundation.

A highlight of the event is the 1776 Tannenberg Organ, one of only nine surviving instruments crafted by renowned Moravian organ builder David Tannenberg. Still in playing condition with its original pipes, the organ produces the same sound heard when it was played for George Washington during his 1782 visit to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Johnston will introduce the origins of the Singstunde before guiding attendees through selections from early American hymnody. A vocalist, conductor, and multi-instrumentalist, he has performed internationally and is known for his work with historic Moravian music traditions.

Admission is free, though seating is limited. The Moravian Historical Society encourages advance reservations through its website.
