Facebook Likes Don’t Matter Anymore, How We Can Help

Posted On September 24, 2019 By lvwithlove In Blog /

You’ve seen it. A local business is at 4,989 likes so they hold some sort of contest to get to that 5,000 number because… well, they don’t even know for sure.

Ask them.

Facebook page likes simply do not matter anymore. Why? Because you simply don’t need to like a page to get information from it anymore.

That used to be the big deal, right? Those in charge of Facebook Pages were reminding people to like their page and follow along lest they miss out on all the great stuff that was going on at their shop.

The Facebook algorithm that placed importance on a high number of “likes” changed years ago, but some social media managers and companies still use it in their metric reports and sell it to their clients as something that is important. It isn’t. If someone tells you it is, they are simply trying to show you vanity metrics to make it look like your social media strategies are working.

Let’s be clear that page likes shouldn’t be confused with post likes. While those may also be factored out (at least visibly to users) in the future, they are still vital in social media management.

The reality is that even if your page has 1 million followers, only a fraction of your followers are going to see your content in their feed without some sort of engagement from one of their Facebook friends or a paid boost from the Facebook Page.

This is good and bad news. The bad news is that it doesn’t matter how many Facebook likes you have. The good news is that your company and business can put out quality social media content and beat out larger companies that may have exponentially more Facebook followers than you.

Sure, it sounds a lot easier than it is, but that’s where we come in.

Lehigh Valley with Love Media crafts your social media presence so that you’ll forget about likes and start focusing on original content featuring your business, social media plans aimed at boosting your company’s online presence, and, most importantly, fun doing it.

Most recently, one of our social media campaigns for a client made it to the Wall Street Journal.
